What time will I-5 southbound be closed on September 11?

We expect I-5 southbound to be completely closed starting at about 10 p.m. on Friday, September 11. However, there may be I-5 ramps that could start to close an hour earlier at 9 p.m. We are encouraging people to allow extra time to get where you need to go and consult navigation tools to plan your route.

Which I-5 Ramps will remain open or be closed?

Closed Ramps

  • Onramp from Alberta St to I-5 SB: CLOSED
  • Onramp from I-405 NB to I-5 SB: CLOSED
  • Onramp from Greeley Ave to I-5 SB: CLOSED
  • Onramp from Wheeler/Williams/Ramsay at the Moda Center to I-5 SB: CLOSED
  • Offramp from I-5 SB to I-84 EB: CLOSED
  • Offramp from I-5 SB to Morrison Bridge: CLOSED

Open Ramps

  • Onramp from Rosa Parks Way to I-5 SB: OPEN
  • Onramp from Going St to I-5 SB: OPEN
  • Offramp from I-5 SB to Broadway: OPEN

  • Whether you are commuting in Portland or planning a trip through the area, ODOT would like travelers across Oregon to be aware that all southbound lanes of I-5 in Portland between I-84 and I-405 are closed. The closure began on September 11, 2026 and is expected to last up to five weeks. During the closure, overdue road repairs are being done as part of the I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project. Learn more about the closure at the project's website and sign up for traffic alerts here.

  • Since September 11, 2026, all lanes of I-5 southbound have been closed through the Rose Quarter between I-405 and I-84 for major repairs. The closure is expected to last around the clock for up to 5 weeks, though one lane will remain open from I-405 to the Broadway exit at the Moda Center for local traffic and events.

    Traffic in the area during this time is likely to be some of the worst the region has ever seen. If you need to travel to or through the Rose Quarter between now and mid-October, plan ahead and consider alternative modes of travel like train, bus, carpool, or bike. The more people modify their travel plans, the better the system will function for everyone, including emergency responders and freight trucks. I-5 Southbound Closure: September - October
